Can the Tokyo International Film Festival Truly Find a New Heart and Soul?
The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) announced May 15 a new image and restructured content for its 26th edition due to take place October 17–25, suggesting a long overdue and thorough revamp. The film festival, often derided for its formality and deadpan seriousness, has apparently found a new heart – in the shape of a camera, as it enters its second quarter-century. Yet so far it appears more like a new lick of paint than the belated relaying of its foundations that many critics feel the event needs.
